Lotus & Bamboo Tea Room: dedicated to meditation and spiritual search

Lotus & Bamboo Tea Room is a project realized by Shanghai design studio Minax and with this project they participate in 2014 at China International Aquilaria Culture Exposition & Living Space Exhibition space. Made of 500 pieces of bamboo with a diameter of 6cm and different lengths, Lotus & Bamboo Tea Room has the form of an ellipsoid inside a cube. The order in which the bamboo sticks of different heights are mounted give the ellipsoidal shape. Bright spotlights are installed in the bamboo sticks that are mounted on the ceiling so that the focusing of the light, leaves in half-light the sticks that stand on the sides of the room, creating the feeling of an isolated and distinct universe.

In the middle of the space, there is a long tea table called Qushui. The theme is approached by the presence of lotus flowers and lotus leaves carved in wood that decorate the room. Such wooden flowers are present along a meandering river carved in the table. In fact, in Chinese, the word Qushui translates as a meandering river that flows. The symbolism of this tea room is strong and reinforces the feeling that you’re in a space dedicated to meditation and spiritual search.
