Good Food Reviews Brothers Keeper: Studio Equator’s newest café design in Kooyong
Brothers Keeper cafe looks set to become a Kooyong classic Ask Nick Markou, co-owner of Brothers Keeper with brother Naidos, who's the "keeper" and he's quick to answer: "I'm the youngest, but trust me, it's me." Their cafe opened in mid-March on Kooyong's shopping strip, which has been crying out for a decent brunch spot for years.
The boys grew up in hospitality (mum makes the Greek biscuits that accompany coffee) and this is their latest project after selling Blue Moose on St Kilda Road about a year ago. Designers Studio Equator helped revamp the Thai restaurant into a bright space with teal-cushioned chairs, hanging greenery and a mural that resembles something between a blue lava lamp and viewing a storm from space.
The custom Street Blend coffee comes from Lygon Street Roasters, the sweet treats and pastries from Cobb Lane and the chef, Matt Barlow, was at Hawthorn Common. Salads, sandwiches and bircher muesli can be grabbed on the go, but all-day breakfast and lunch are worth sitting down for. Try the Instagram-friendly chia and acai pudding; green pea fritters with air-dried ricotta, poached eggs and glazed double-smoked bacon cubes; or sous-vide pressed lamb shoulder. By the end of May, the 35-seat cafe will add another 40 spots in a fully covered courtyard.
