Building from an existing brand, Best Cuts and Colour has opened another salon in the centre of one of the most popular shopping centers in Melbourne. This expanding brand has had over 10 years experience in the Hair & Beauty industry, so for their 15thstore opening they found creative direction through Studio Equator.
Best Cut’s offers an affordable hair cut and colour for men and women whilst guaranteeing a professional service, fashionable trends and a quality, high-end salon. The brand has always been about the client and now this is reflected in the interior design.
The overall concept explains true simplicity and modernism with a stylish edge emphasizing fashion, beauty and quality. The façade of the salon opens with painted timber panels framing the signage and shelves decorated with white LED lights. A matte floor tile covers the space and contrasts off the glossy black and white interior, adding warmth to the fit out.
The focal point in this design is the use of mirroring and lights that Studio Equator has played with in the ceiling installation. In line with the mirrors of each cutting station and playing on the reflections, the designers create a focal point that draws the eye through to the back of the salon. The fashion runway installation works on a repeated illusion with 17 precisely positioned mirrors. Light fittings then hang down at the same point next to each mirror panel and intern reflects through. This finishes the feature that brings you to the back of the salon and rounds down at the end giving a condescending perspective. The feature also functions as a break between the salon and the sinks.
The cutting/colour stations are simple with ceiling to floor individual mirrors, leather black chairs and soft white painted walls. This black and white corporate runway makes you feel like you’ve just walked behind stage at the MTV awards to touch up your hair and make up, J-Lo style.
